League Basics

Q: What is Junior Development League (JDL)?

A: Junior Development League (JDL) is a development-focused soccer league designed specifically for U7 and U8 players. JDL provides age-appropriate competition in a fun, positive environment where players can build confidence, develop their skills, and foster a lifelong love of the game.

Q: What age groups can participate in JDL?

A: JDL currently offers league play for U7 and U8 teams.

Q: Can teams or players play up an age group?

A: Yes. Play-ups are permitted within the eligible U7 and U8 birthdate ranges.

Q: What match formats are played?

A: JDL uses age-appropriate, modified-size soccer:

  • U7 teams play 5v5 with a goalkeeper
  • U8 teams play 7v7 with a goalkeeper
Q: Where are JDL matches played?

A: JDL is hosted at Elite 90 Soccer (E90), a 150,000-square-foot indoor soccer and performance training facility in Tukwila, WA near Southcenter Mall.

Q: Is JDL a sanctioned league?

A: Yes. JDL is sanctioned by USSSA Soccer.

Q: Can my player participate in both JDL and WPL/RCL?

A: Yes! Because JDL operates under a different sanctioning body, players may also compete in other leagues such as WPL or RCL.

Q: Can my team participate in the JDL Cup without playing in the regular season?

A: Yes! Teams are welcome to register for JDL Cup even if they are not participating in a JDL league season.

Q: Are scores and standings kept?

A: JDL maintains internal scores and standings throughout each league season while continuing to prioritize player development and positive competition.

Registration

Q: How do I register my team?

A: Navigate to the League Play or JDL Cup menu and select the season or event you would like to register for. Each page includes registration information and a link to register your team.

Q: I coach a recreational team. Can we participate?

A: Yes! JDL welcomes recreational, academy, and club teams looking for age-appropriate league play and additional playing opportunities.

Q: Does my team need to be affiliated with a club?

A: No. While most teams participate through a club, independent teams may also be accepted on a case-by-case basis. Apply for JDL as an independent team here.

Support

Q: I have a question or concern regarding a match day. Who should I contact?

A: Please contact your team’s head coach or club representative first. If additional assistance is needed, your club representative can reach out to the JDL Director.
